What is Movember & What are the rules?
Simply, every November, the Movember charity assemble men and women to help tackle men’s health on a global scale.
The charity raises awareness and funds for some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.
Timeline of the Movember Foundation
It all began in Australia, when 30 guys decided to revive an old-fashioned trend – the moustache. When they realised how much fun it was, they began raising money for prostate cancer. This began 14 years ago in 2003.
By 2004, the charity had raised £21,184 with 480 Mo Bro’s and Mo Sista’s helping the cause.
The UK got involved along with USA and Spain in 2007 and the amount of Mo Bro’s and Mo Sista’s involved jumped just over the 200,000 mark.
2010 saw a fantastic growth in funds with 1,077,060 Mo Bro’s and Mo Sista’s helping to raise £96,102,741 for the charity.
The Movember Foundation is awarded the Social Force of the Year award from GQ Australia magazine in 2013.
Now in 2017, the Movember Foundation receives a ranking of 49 out of the top 500 non-governmental-organisations around the world.
14 years later, the Movember movement funded more than 1,200 men’s health projects. Have 5,348,726 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas since 2003 (and counting) from 20 different countries. Their progression is outstanding but they are not done yet.
